Japanese homebuilders are on a buying spree of American firms, in a trend that’s only accelerating as the U.S. faces a shortage of 4.03 million homes. Since the start of 2026, four Japanese firms have announced deals to snap up homebuilders, including Sumitomo Forestry Co. Ltd.’s plan to acquire Tri-Pointe Homes Inc. in a $4.5 billion deal.
